If you are going to have your senior session in 90 degree heat, this is the way to do it.  Griffin didn’t even break a sweat!  I met him, his parents, and girlfriend, Sofie, recently at the Washington Park Arboretum.

Griffin was enjoying his last week of summer before starting his senior year at Liberty High School.

His beautiful girlfriend, Sofie, made an excellent assistant and helped out with my reflector, but she didn’t mind hopping into a few photos, too. With a quick outfit change, we were on to our next location.  The park is usually really busy, but the heat must have kept people at home.  It looked like we had the place to ourselves. This bridge is one of my favorite spots in the park.  I love the light posts in the background and the sunlight that filters through the trees.  It’s the quintessential PNW golden glow.
This next set of images are probably my favorite.  Griffin was super relaxed by this time and I think it really shows.  Kudos to him for this awesome outfit, too!

Griffin may still be undecided about where to go to college and what he wants to major in, but one thing is for sure, he’s a big baseball fan. Thanks to Griffin and Sofie for making this session look like a breeze!  Have a great senior year.

I had an amazing portrait session recently with Erin and her mom.   We met at Discovery Park in Seattle and had the absolute best weather.

Erin is a total natural in front of the camera.  Doesn’t she has the most genuine smile?

Erin will be a senior this fall at Holy Names Academy and is looking forward to getting back onto the soccer field and running track after an injury sidelined her last year.

Erin has traveled to California to visit some colleges.  She’s still undecided about where she will end up after graduation, but she is leaning towards majoring in biology.  Erin volunteers her time at a local children’s hospital delivering toys and is considering going on to medical school.I love Erin’s casual style and she did not forget the details!  Her jewelry choices accentuated every outfit perfectly!

We had  a lot of fun in this golden field of tall grass and quickly put together a little bouquet of wild sweet peas.  I love the pop of color!

I could have photographed Erin in that field for a long time, but we had to be sure to get down to the beach for some light house pictures.  The setting sun gave us its best golden glow.

We finished off with one last outfit before we ran out of light.  The long walk back up the hill gave us lots of time to chat.  I found out that Erin is also working towards becoming an Eagle Scout and will be starting her project soon.  These high school students never cease to amaze me with the activities they participate in and the ways they volunteer in the community.

Many thanks to Erin and Becky for such a fun evening!  Erin, you were absolutely stunning!  I hope you love your portraits!

This is Ellie and we met at Point Defiance for her tween portrait session back in June.

This arbor is a great focal point and I’m so glad the roses were blooming.  It’s looks like we had this part of the garden to ourselves, but it was a very popular spot this evening.  A little patience really does pay off!

Ellie just finished her 6th grade year, likes to play volleyball and participated in her first school production this past year.  I admire her willingness to get up on stage!

Ellie has the most quiet confidence about her.  If she was nervous at all during her session, she hid it really well.  I also think she has the best “serious smile”.

Ellie wanted a natural setting for her session and I’m so glad she chose Point Defiance Park.  It is one of my favorite locations to shoot at in Tacoma.  Many thanks to Ellie and her mom for a great evening!

Four years ago, I got a call from a sweet mom, Gladys, who needed to find a replacement photographer.  Her daughter, Abbey, was graduating from Bishop Blanchet High School, and I said I’d be happy to help them out.  Fast forward to last week and it was time for Abbey’s cap and gown portraits at the University of Washington!

It was such a pleasure to capture this important milestone for Abbey and her family and truly an honor that Gladys called me again.

Abbey majored in political science and global and regional studies. She recently returned to Seattle after a semester long internship with Homeland Security in Washington D.C.

Abbey is a member of UW’s Delta Zeta sorority. I love to get detail shots, so I appreciate that Abbey brought both of her stoles in addition to her cap and gown.

Aside from studies, Abbey was also a member of Phi Alpha Delta. It’s the largest pre-law fraternity in the world which helps students interested in law to learn more about the profession.

Senior portraits at UW would not be complete without a few shots inside and outside of the iconic Suzzalo Library!

This shot was Abbey’s idea and it turned out great! You would think that we had the steps to ourselves, but that was NOT the case! UW was swarming with students, families and photographers all taking advantage of the awesome weather.

After graduation, Abbey will have a few weeks to celebrate and soak in her accomplishments before embarking on her new journey which will take her to Santa Clara University in August. She’s been accepted to Santa Clara’s School of Law!  Congratulations!

Thank you Abbey and Gladys for such a great session! The weather was PERFECT, and as usual, Abbey was a dream to photograph! Best wishes!

Sophia is a senior with the class of 2023 at Seattle Preparatory School.  She’s just a few weeks from finishing her senior year!

We met at Discovery Park recently and typical spring PNW weather left us guessing if we were going to be able to shoot or not.  Between work and school , Sophia has a pretty tight schedule, so we really needed the weather to cooperate.  It ended up beautifully!Sophia was so relaxed and natural in front of the camera and has an easy smile.  Just look at these beautiful blue eyes!

In addition to school and work, Sophia is a soccer player for Seattle Prep and a competitive league.  When she’s not playing soccer, she loves to play basketball with friends for fun.

Sophia told me she love trees, greenery and nature in general and knew she wanted to have her senior pictures taken in Discovery Park.  I agree that it’s a great location from the historic houses above and the tall grasses below.

With Sophia’s help, I finally cracked the code on shooting in this huge park.  We walked down to the beach and were back up to our cars well before sunset without sacrificing the beautiful golden glow we got in the last few images.
After graduation, Sophia will continue to work throughout the summer and then pack her bags and creativity for Savannah, Georgia to attend SCAD, the Savannah College of Art and Design.  She’s undecided on what major she wants to pursue, but from the school’s website, the possibilities are numerous!

Have a fantastic rest of your senior year and all the best at SCAD!
