It turned out to be a stunning fall day to meet up with my first  senior from Kentridge High School.  I met Rylen and his parents at Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle.  I had never been there before and I’m so glad that his mom, Amy, suggested it!  Once I saw these rusty curved walls, I knew exactly where I wanted to start our session.

Rylen has a great natural smile and probably the best hair I’ve ever seen.  I’m a little jealous over his curls but only in the most complimentary way!

Rylen’s  busy doing Running Start and taking classes at community college.  By his high school graduation, he will have a good amount of college credit already under his belt.

I love the reflections of light in this cool bit of architecture Amy spotted just off of the trail.  The Olympic Sculpture Park definitely has some interesting art pieces on display.

The fall colors were making a bold appearance and made for a stunning background and warm pop of color.

The sun was still really bright, but as we walked through the park, we came across this concrete wall and I couldn’t pass up putting it to good use.

Again, another great smile and just look at those blue eyes!

We walked along the Elliott Bay Trail a short distance to this great little beach.  The light was perfect.

Thank you, Rylen!  I enjoyed meeting you and your parents.  You did a fantastic job!  I hope you have lots of opportunity to make it up to the mountains for some good snowboarding and wish you all the best for your senior year!

Three years ago, my neighbor asked me to photograph her sweet family.  I was thrilled when Dawnita contacted me to update her family portrait.

Even though I miss seeing them around my neighborhood now, they are happily settled in picturesque Gig Harbor.  I didn’t mind at all to cross the bridge to catch up with them.  Who would pass up photographing this lovely family in this setting?

Darryl and my husband have know each other since college and went through ROTC together.  During our active duty Air Force years, we were stationed at the same base on more than one occasion, just not at the same time.  It’s funny how we ended up living just down the street from each other so many years later!

They are a wonderfully, loving, multi-generational family.  They are so happy to have Darryl’s dad, Nick, living with them.

The Parkinsons lost their two beloved Westies in recent years, but their hearts had room for a new fur friend.  They rescued this sweet guy and brought him home about a year ago.

During our session three years ago, I took a photo of Nick and Conor together that showed their special bond.  I said they were like two peas in a pod!  I wanted to document their relationship again but capture it from a different perspective this time.  I think it’s obvious they are simply the best of friends.

We finished up at the beach and moved on to the harbor that they love so much.  I was disappointed when our first session got rained out, but the weather was perfect for our second attempt.  We couldn’t have asked for a nicer evening or prettier backdrops.

Thank you, Cooper!  You are the sweetest dog and did a great job for your first family session!

Let me introduce you to Luke.  He’ll be starting his senior year in just a few weeks at Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma.

I had the privilege of shooting his older sister’s senior portraits a few years ago at Pt. Defiance.  The park holds special memories for this family, and they chose this location for Luke’s session as well.  Luke’s mom, Brynn, told me that he wanted shots that incorporated brick work, so the Pagoda was a great place to start.

Even though I had a recent session here for another Bellarmine guy, we were easily able to give Luke’s session a different look.  Point Defiance is so versatile!

Luke has played both football and basketball with the Bellarmine Lions but has decided to focus on basketball this year.  Luke also mentioned that he would like to get more involved with community service this year through the school’s Ohana Club.  Finally, Luke remembers what it was like to be a new freshmen and the positive impact the seniors had in making him feel a part of the Bellarmine community.  He wants to pay it back this year with an opportunity to mentor the incoming freshman class.

Luke is really tall, so this one of several shots during the night that was taken on my tip toes!  I did have a step stool in my car, but we managed to make our significant height difference work just fine.

Once again, Owens Beach was  a popular spot on such a gorgeous summer evening, but the tide was out just enough to give us a little bit of beach along the boardwalk.

Thank you, Luke!  You did a fantastic job!  Enjoy the last few weeks of summer, and I wish you all the best for a memorable and successful senior year.  Go Lions!

Jeremy is an up and coming senior with the Class of 2020 at Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma.  I  met Jeremy and his parents at Pt. Defiance Park recently for his session and the weather was fantastic!

Jeremy has had a busy summer already with a trip to Oahu with the school’s Marine Chemistry program and he recently returned from baseball camp.  In addition to baseball, he plays lacrosses for the Bellarmine Lions as well.

Pt. Defiance is one of those places that offers a wide variety of settings in just one location.  It really is a great choice for portrait sessions because each setting is the perfect time for a wardrobe change.  In my opinion, Jeremy’s dressy outfit was a perfect compliment for the formal architecture of the pagoda building.  I love the pop of blue and guys can never go wrong with wearing a button down and tie.  So dapper!

Jeremy could go from serious look one shot to contagious smile the next like a pro.

Our last location for the evening was just a few minutes drive within the park to Owens Beach.  It’s a popular spot on a gorgeous summer night, but with a little strategy, we made it look like we had the beach all to ourselves.

A huge thank you to Rob and Dee!  I had the pleasure of photographing their beautiful daughter, Alyssa, a few years ago, and it means so much that they asked me to photograph Jeremy as well.  Enjoy the rest of your summer and have a fantastic senior year.  Go Lions!

Recently, I photographed the cutest pair of tweens, who are not only siblings, but twins!  They are just as sweet as they are photogenic!

That amazing PNW summer weather showed up in a big way for our session.  With nothing but blue skies, we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful evening, and the front porch of the family home is so warm and inviting.  It made a perfect backdrop for portraits.

    Lovely Vivienne.Warren.  So dapper!

I loved the idea that Morris wanted to incorporate his trumpet into the session.  I had no idea that not only does Morris have a stunning collection of instruments, but that I was going to photograph an internationally known and Global Music Award Winning trumpet artist and clinician!  Morris, Lavonne and the kids recently returned from his solo tour around Ireland.  I hope I did Morris and his trumpet justice!

I can’t thank the Lavonne and Morris enough for their warm welcome, inviting me to their home and allowing me the privilege of photographing their beautiful family.  It was truly a delight!
