This is Mykahla and she will start her senior year at Bellarmine Prep in just a few short weeks.  Mykahla chose two great locations for her senior session and we started out at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.  It was a beautiful evening drenched in golden light and Mykahla was ready to go with an amazing smile that just lights up her face!

When I saw this little gravel path meandering through these colorful blooms, I knew it was the perfect spot to photograph Mykahla.  She is absolutely radiant!Mykahla told me she has a little collection of Converse.  I’m so happy she included her love for Chuck Taylors in her senior session and I think she looks super cute in her prom dress and sneakers!

It was time for another outfit change and a change of location as well.  Mykahla wanted to include a more urban vibe in some of her images.  Downtown Tacoma has so many great locations to choose from.

The wind decided to pick up and play havoc with her hair, but thankfully Mykahla’s mom had a quick fix for these gorgeous curls.

A quick switch out for this really flattering jacket.  Professional with a touch of Mykahla’s personal style!

These summer evenings are fading faster these days, but I think we ended on a fantastic note.  This girl is full of big smiles and confidence, and the photo above captures that perfectly.  Best wishes, Mykahla!  I know that senior year is starting off a little differently this fall, but I hope you can get back on stage with at one last Bellarmine Theater production doing what you love and make amazing memories along the way!

Meet Marissa and Wyatt!  We recently got together at Fort Steilacoom Park and I had the best time photographing these siblings.

Marissa will be a sixth grader this coming school year.

Wyatt excitedly told me he’s going into the third grade.

I love all the images from this shoot, but these two right here above and below may just be my favorites from the night.

I love that mom, Jean, was willing to join in, though I’m just as guilty of being camera shy as she is.  Family portraits are so important because they capture who you are together at this very moment in time.

Is there anything sweeter than a girl in a field of tall grass holding a bouquet of wildflowers?

I told Jean that I could do an entire blog post on the many faces of Wyatt.  She said I captured a number of “his” looks, so that made me really happy!  I always hope that people’s personalities will shine through my lens.

What a way to end our session!  I love everything about this image and what a gift to be able to look back on this time.  Thank you Jean, Marissa and Wyatt for hanging out with me and allowing me to capture these special moments for you.

Discovery Park, in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood, was a new location for me and I’m so glad Olivia requested it!  I met Olivia and her mom, Robin, last week at the visitor’s center to discuss our game plan for the shoot.  The park is huge and we had a lot of ground to cover.

Before I get to these BEAUTIFUL images, though, I must give a shout out to these two.  They arrived with big smiles, Olivia’s outfits neatly organized on hangars, simple and classic accessories, and Olivia’s hair and makeup done perfectly to enhance her natural beauty.  It was obvious that Olivia and Robin had taken time to plan and I think Olivia’s amazing images are the result.  These ladies get two huge thumbs up for a job well done!

Now, on to Olivia who is an upcoming senior at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle.  I asked what keeps her busy besides classes and the answer is running!  She runs cross-country in the fall and track and field in the spring.  With practices and meets taking up 6 days a week, she doesn’t have much in the way of free time.  When she can relax, she loves to hang out with her friends.

These are some of the first shots I took of Olivia.  She was so at ease and my camera loved her.

I asked Robin what she hoped I would capture of Olivia during her senior session and Robin replied, “her happiness, poise and beautiful smile.”  I think these qualities shine through each and every image.  Besides an amazing smile, Olivia has a quiet confidence that is really beautiful.

The former Ft. Lawton is located in Discovery Park and the military housing is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Don’t these homes make for stunning backgrounds?

When I asked Olivia what I would see if I looked in her closet, she answered, “jeans, tank tops and jewelry.”  The outfits she choose for her senior session are true to her style and personality.  As you can see in this post, casual clothing items with fun details paired with simple accessories look fantastic and well put together!  This jewel toned T-shirt is a lovely color on Olivia and provides a nice pop against the grass, too.

While Olivia made a quick outfit change, the front porch of the historic home next door caught my eye, and I knew I wanted to incorporate the railings and columns.  I asked Olivia for a serious look, which lasted for mere seconds before that smile was back.  I don’t think she can help it!

We needed to move on to our next location, but we stumbled upon these wild sweet peas.  I’m glad we didn’t pass them by.

It was a bit of a trek down to the water and we were trying to beat sunset.  Thankfully we made it in time for a few shots by the lighthouse.Best of all, I sweet talked Robin into getting a picture with Olivia.  She is so proud of this girl and I have no doubt she’s her biggest cheerleader.    Robin and Olivia, you have my heart felt thanks for a truly amazing senior session!  Olivia, best wishes as you return to Bishop Blanchet in the fall.  I hope you have a fantastic senior year filled with success and fond memories.  Best of luck as you also navigate the upcoming big life choices about college and majors.  Keep on running and make your dreams come true.

This is my first post of the new year and I’m so happy to introduce, Daniel!  He’s a senior at Bellarmine Prep, finishing up his classes online and looking forward to a graduation ceremony in August.

During his four years at Bellarmine, Daniel was a frequent performer in a number of the school’s Theater productions.  He also has a passion for music and is a member of Bellarmine’s elite choir, the Voice Ensemble.  Additionally, he finds time to lend his talent to the Tacoma Youth Chorus.  Daniel won the Commencement Bay Regionals for Baritone voice hosted by the Washington Music Educators Association.

Proud member of the Class of 2020!

I  fully appreciate the fact that Daniel and his mom came well prepared to the session with a bag of fun accessories like these cool 2020 shades!

Would a Cap and Gown session for the Class of 2020 be complete without a face mask?  Daniel is nothing short of joy and positivity rolled into one genuine and optimistic young man.  Nothing is going to keep this guy down!

What a great smile and attitude.  Daniel was a joy to photograph and I’m not sure who is a bigger jokester, him or his mom.  They both kept me laughing.  I had such a fun evening with them!

Congratulations Daniel!  I wish you all the best as you start a new chapter in life as a Lute and pursue a degree in Music Education at Pacific Lutheran University.  Stay cool and keep shining your joy!

I had the chance to photograph this beautiful senior on the grounds of the Washington State Capitol.  I met Jazalyn, her mom, aunt and younger sister on a perfect fall afternoon in Olympia.
Jazalyn attends Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma and keeps really busy with varsity volleyball and leadership opportunities with ASB.

Doesn’t she have an amazing smile?
Jazalyn’s mom and aunt were awesome!  They helped Jazalyn with her outfit changes and kept her hair and makeup looking great!  Even her little sister was a perfect assistant and helped me with my reflector.  I couldn’t have asked for a better photography crew!

Jazalyn is such a pretty girl, from the inside out.  I think she just radiates joy! This was my first time shooting on the Capitol grounds and I hope to have more sessions here!  The buildings are amazing backdrops for sure. The light was going down fast, but Jazalyn got in one more outfit change.

Jazalyn, you were an absolute gem to work with!  You did a fantastic job and I hope you love all of your images!  Enjoy all that your senior year has to offer and best wishes as you as you make your big college decisions.  Go Lions!
